Heightism
Well, I’ve talked before about heigh in Second Life™ and the fact that unless you are disproportionately tall (in real life standards) then you will look like a dwarf in SL™.
Well it seems a certain club (that I will not name, being as diplomatic as I am) has decided to actively encourage such tall avies! Speaking to a friend last night I was made aware that a club is ejecting avatars on arrival based on their height! This is, apparently, a means of preventing child avatars entering the club. However, my non child avatar friend also found herself ejected repeatedly because she falls under the minimum height requirement. Fortunately, SL being SL, she was able simply to adjust her height and make it in!
Now, is it just me or is that all a little, well…. ‘heightist’? The assumption here is evidently that if your avatar is not tall, you must therefore be roleplaying a child!! Now there’s an assumption and a half.
Can you imagine turning up at a club in real life and having some bouncer tell you that you’re not old enough to come in because you’re not quite 6 feet tall? Nope, he doesn’t want to see your ID! If you’re not six feet, you’re not getting in! It’s ludicrous!
I really do believe that everyone has the right to turn whoever they want away from their location in game. If someone does not want child avatars on their parcel/in their store/in their club then fine! But surely you can’t just eject anyone under a certain heigh assuming that they must be playing child avatars. Perhaps I should start setting access on my land to eject anyone over the equivalent of 6 feet 5 inches with a message, “Your avatar is too tall. You therefore must be roleplaying as an elderly man. Elderly men are not welcome here. goodbye.”
Hmm… now there’s an idea!

i agree, to eject people due to height is ridiculous, however, i have at least 4 strangers either attack me verbally directly, or make comments in open chat about my height (yes im a tall female on sl – why? because i WANT to be thats why) telling me im too tall and quite frankly being very rude about it
people should be able to choose whatever size they want to be, with no judgements passed

I also came across an adult club that ejected based on height. My avatar is on the short side, but still far from child height (160cm, or 5’6″… a totally average height for a normal female human). Granted, the club is geared towards males who would generally be taller and I received a notecard from the object that ejected me explaining I could IM the club owner for an exception, but it was a little off putting. Any of the child avatars I know have no interest in such things anyway.

Yes, I can’t imagine that being ejected for being “short” is likely to make you want to go to all that hassle of then IMing the owner just to get into their disciminatory venue anyway!
And yup, Darkley, if we weren’t supposed to exercise some creativity with our avs, then the appearance sliders wouldn’t exist

Vote with your feet guys. If you don’t attend these sorts of clubs they’ll eventually wither and die.
I think it’s just silly at best myself. I mean they’re worried about the height of an Av when there’s no real way to make sure the person behind the KEYS isn’t underage.
I’d think you’d get in a lot more trouble with the young player rather than the av.
In a related note, I was bored and prowling as I often do.
I came across a “Save our kink” sign in a dungeon.. begging and pleading Linden Labs to not do the “Offensive to the majority” rule. Right next to it “No child AVs, its disgusting and immoral.”
Um.. ok?
