Leslie Hope Jarmon might not be a name you know. She wasn’t a famous singer, nor actress – her face was not plastered across television sets night in, night out. Yet her contribution to society has far surpassed that of the singing, dancing, acting stars whose passing would certainly have attracted massive media attention.

Dr. Leslie Hope Jarmon played a huge part in pioneering and championing the use of Second Life in education. Known as Bluewave Ogee in Second Life, she gave education in virtual worlds the credibility it deserved and was a massive contributor to the huge 49 island setup that UT has in world.

As the tone of this post might already have given let on, Leslie passed away on 24th November 2009 after a battle with cancer. It’s always terribly sad to hear of someone passing at a young age, but this is somewhat intensified when that someone is responsible for so much good work.

A permanent memorial has been set up in world: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Educators%20Coop%205/64/95/44
