Second Life Adoption
I’ve made no secret about how confused I am over child avatars, particularly those with speech impediments (‘hewwwwwoooooooo’). However, what confuses me more is the ‘adoption’ process of child avatars in Second Life.
So, you can always argue that roleplaying is a part of a virtual world. Some people play furries, nekos, vampires etc, so roleplaying a child, from that angle, might not be much different. Except that, in my opinion, it’s weird and creepy that any grown man or woman would want to run around pretending to be three again. But whatever.
What is with the adoption thing? Most of the Second Life ‘parents’ I have spoken to treat their children in world as though they are their RL children – financially too. So basically little child avie (who might well be a fifty year old obese unemployed man sitting at his computer typing in ‘kid speak’) pays nothing and gets given his land/place to ‘live’ and everything he wants in world. I don’t get it. I just do not get it at all. I do know one or two ‘children’ who do insist on paying their way, so I don’t deny that there are those who do. But it seems there are more who don’t. Is this not just a way for someone to have everything they want in world paid for without having to do a thing for it except spew out some badly spelled, entirely fake child like phrase of affection once in a while? I mean, come on! Get real.
Parents – your child is not a cute four year old girl with pigtails. It’s an old bloke pretending to be a little girl instead of spending some time in counselling addressing the issues that cause him to want to be a cute little girl.
Anyway, that’s my two Lindens on the matter.
Yawn… what’s everyone doing for New Years?

Josue I think this blog was for nought. Humanity does lots of things we don’t understand (Fruit Loops for one). The child avatar doesn’t fit into your concept of reality. I don’t really understand furries but I don’t have a judgment on them. Why people read ‘Twilight” eludes me as well as the side sales of ‘male anatomy’ you can buy and refrigerate so you can feel as if Edward is inside you (and that’s in firstlife). Oh Well, you can delete my ramblings I raise you three Lindens worth

Nah, Lauren. I don’t delete comments here. I’m quite happy for opinions to be shared here.
There’s plenty of things I don’t understand – I’m just too much of a gobshite to keep my mouth shut about them.

Hmm…I wonder how I can get adopted, because I gotta say, having things paid for sounds pretty good! Although I guess at my age, I could look to be adopted by a sugar daddy.
Josue Habana
LOL, Alicia. If you find a Sugar Daddy who may be seeking an overly opinionated, loud, annoying, random Brit guy to throw money at (in exchange for NO sexual services whatsoever) please let me know!

You need to check out an “adoption center”.
Surreal shit…

Pretty much, yeah.
I made a kid avatar last year, got adopted for a week, maybe two. It is actually quite hard to RP a kid without the stupid lisping and grammatical errors, because otherwise how do people know you’re playing a kid and not just a short person in a bad outfit? Yeah, I got some stuff bought for me but most of it was ugly, and my ‘family’ was so boring that in the end I played truant on an another alt for a week and when I got back they’d banmuted me.
It’s work, basically, like stripping or escorting; you RP and get stuff in exchange. I have to say I respect those who keep at it, because it was way too dull and time-consuming for me.

Ok if you did any research on it before posting this you will see that over 99per cent of people ageplay because they have had really bad childhoods, they are trying to recreate something they either never had or lost, I do agree some people do it for the wrong reasons, but others are just trying to find the family they never had, Some people who can’t have kids in rl for health reasons want to adopt on sl and have the family they can’t have in rl they arent hurting anyone, I find it facinating that after the posts you made about karens article that you are doing the same thing, I quote “who might well be a fifty year old obese unemployed man”, they might well be but not all of them are your making judgements just like she did, I don’t want to sound rude but please dont make comments on things you really dont know anything about.
