Event Listing Screw Up….

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I blogged about Second Life event listings the other day.

Actually, more specifically I blogged about the fact that the listing was screwing up. Something else to add to the list of screwed up things since the website update. That post is here.

Anyhow… as I’ve said before, I cancelled my premium account after about 15 months because I thought the support was pretty mediocre anyway. But a friend of mine did go in and query this in live chat (apparently us humble basic members are not worth live chatting to).

The problem…. You cannot list an event with a landing point above 700m.

What. The. Fuck?

So you can build up to 4000m and, given associated lag problems with events that have a lot of people attending, many venues to build at these heights. But you’re not allowed to hold events there? Well, that’s logical.

/end sarcasm.

What a stupid little rule. I actually cannot decipher an element of logic to it in any sense. You can have a party at 700m… but 701m? Oh my God, no! CODE RED, CODE RED, WE HAVE A PROBLEM… SOMEONE IS TRYING TO HAVE A GATHERING IN A SKYBOX AT 706M.

So, that’s something worth bearing in mind when you set your location up. Although the build function has now been enabled up to 4000m, something they were very proud to tell us, there’s little point in having any venue you will hold events in higher than 700m.

Nuggets.

Guess What Else is Borked?

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I HATE the new Second Life website. But it seems that the new layout isn’t only confusing… it is also entirely badly thought out and does not work in parts. Take event listings for example.

Go in to list your event, as per usual.

Nothing new......

Select location from the drop down menu, as per usual.

Hmm... the drop down menu does not have Z co-ordinates.

Hmm... the drop down menu does not have Z co-ordinates.

ERROR? Enter Z co-ordinates?

Now, this would be a perfectly fine request apart from the fact that you CAN’T enter Z co-ordinates and the Z co-ordinates are left out in the drop down menu on ALL options. Your only choices are the ones in their menu. So they leave the Z out and then won’t let you list your event because of this.

Of course, I could submit a ticket about it. But given the event is Sunday and I cancelled my premium account, it would be pointless. I would wait three weeks for a response and it would be “we’re looking into it, ticket closed.”

Fucking eejits.
