Open Source Resource – FREE Open Source Scripts and Goodies
Monday, December 28th, 2009I come across a lot of people who complain that an item they have paid a significant amount of money for turns out to be just a bit of prim work an an open source script.
Now, I’m all for creators using open source scripts. I personally love them. But surely, surely, surely, as open source relies on a certain level of community contribution, any open source scripts used should be cited as open source and any modifications made should be shared?
Well, that’s my idealist opinion anyway. But onto the point of this post. Whenever someone asks me about open source or getting help started with scripting (I’m not a scripter myself aside from the very basics) I always point them here – the Open Source Resource.

This tall and rather cool looking build is home to objects, scripts, textures and all kinds of miscellaneous open source goodness. Everything is full permissions and most of it is FREE! One thing that is not free here is a multi tool HUD. It’s L$ 5000 – however it is completely full permissions and comes equipped with all sorts of cool tools, weapons, scanners etc. When you consider that a number of the multi tools already available exceed L$ 1000, paying 5k for one that’s full perms (including all scripts) is pretty good value. As I said, however, much of the stuff there is free and makes a great basis for some pretty cool creations.
